The leaves are soft and velvety to the touch, deep green in colour, and highlighted by contrasting white veins that look almost painted on.

What makes the Gloriosum unique is its growth habit—it is a crawler, not a climber. Its stem (rhizome) grows horizontally along the soil surface rather than up a pole. As it matures, it will appreciate a wider, rectangular pot to give it room to roam. To keep those velvety leaves pristine and huge, place it in bright, indirect light and keep the humidity high.

• Important Care Tip: Ensure the top of the horizontal stem (rhizome) remains above the soil line to prevent rot; never bury it completely!
